Proserpinaca Palustris – Mermaid Weed

Add stunning copper-red tones and unique, feathery foliage to your aquascape with Proserpinaca Palustris! Also known as Mermaid Weed, this distinctive freshwater stem plant is admired for its unusual leaf shape and beautiful colour transformation under suitable growing conditions.

Proserpinaca Palustris develops finely serrated, needle-like leaves when grown submerged, creating an eye-catching contrast against green aquatic plants. Planting & Care Tips

Plant Proserpinaca Palustris stems in suitable aquarium substrate, allowing enough space between stems for light penetration and healthy growth. Provide strong lighting, stable CO₂ levels and balanced nutrients to encourage its characteristic finely divided submerged leaves.

Under lower lighting or insufficient CO₂, the plant may remain greener and develop less compact growth. Newly submerged plants may also undergo a transition in leaf shape as they adapt to underwater conditions.

Trim the upper stems and replant healthy cuttings to expand your plant group. Avoid sudden fluctuations in lighting, CO₂ and fertilisation to help maintain healthy foliage.
